I'M A 54 YEAR OLD SINGLE (BY CHOICE) MOM. JUST ME AND MY DAUGHTER. I AM RETIRED FROM THE STATE / AS WELL AS AN ARMY VETERAN. MY DAUGHTER IS MY FULL TIME JOB! CONCEIVED AT 42 YEAR'S OLD, AND DELIVER'ED AT 43 YEAR'S OLD; PERMATURLY; FIRST AND ONLY AND 'LAST CHILD. MY DAUGHTER IS A 'MINI-ME'; HOWEVER I GOT 'NOTHING ON HER! YES SHE HAS TAKEN ME FROM EXCEEDINGLY HIGH....WITH, YET MORE TO COME I KNOW; THEN EXTREMELY LOW.

SHE LOST HER FATHER 03/2012, THEY WERE 'EXTREMELY' CLOSE....I REALIZE I'M ALL OVER THE PLACE HERE....THIS IS WHAT I DEAL WITH DAY IN; DAY OUT. I TRY AND KEEP HER BUSY WITH AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM'S LIKE; 'GOTR; GIRL'S ON THE RUN' AS WELL AS 'BOY'S AND GIRL'S CLUB', BECAUSE MOMMY DOES NOT LEAVE HOUSE UNLESS 'ABSOLUTELY, POSTIVELY' ETC. HOW EVER THIS CHILD WANT'S MORE AND MORE AND MORE; ETC.

I COULD GO ON AND ON AND ON HERE, BUT WILL END THIS ONE. THE SECOND THING IS HER FEAR OF BUG'S; WHICH I KNOW IS A NORM. HOWEVER WHEN WE ARE OUT AND ABOUT IN THE CAR AND A BEE,WASP,YELLOW JACKET,FLY,MICRO BURG;S; SHE GOES BALLISTIC! JUST TODAY AROUND 2--3PM ON OUR WAY HOME AND SHE CATCHES A FLYING BUG IN THE CAR (2ND ONE, THIS DAY?) I INQUIRE "WHERE?" WELL BY THIS TIME SHE IS FREAKING OUT, SCREAMING TO TOP OF LUNGS, UNBUCKLING BELT TO GET OUT OF CAT, LITERALLY 'ALL PRAISE TO JESUS WE WERE AT A RED LIGHT. SO I'M TRYING TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF CAR ON OTHER HAND ON MY DAUGHTER'S ARM AND TELL HER "YOU CANNOT GET OUT OF THE CAR BECAUSE A BUG IS INSIDE SHE'S....."YES I CAN" ALL WHILE SCREAM,JUMPING UP AND DOWN WITH IN THE CAR, I HAD TO PUT MY HAND OVER HER MOUTH,SHE WAS SCREAMING SO. I ASK'ED HER "WHERE IS IT?" SHE'S LIKE "RIGHT THERE BEHIND ME!) ONCE THE LIGHT TURN'ED GREEN I PULL OFF INTO A LOT, SHE'S CALMING DOWN BY THIS TIME,AND ASK THE ? "WHY ARE YOU HOLDING MY ARM?" LET HER GET OUT WHILE I SEARCH'ED FOR WASP. FOUND IT AND SHOOOED IT OUT. NOT THE FIRST THIS HAS HAPPEN. ANY SUGGESTION ON ALL I WRITE? SIGNING OF MS. HELLLLLLLLLPPPPP!

Hey Jackie!

Yes...kids are a very full-time job!!

It sounds like you have a very typical 12 year old! That is great!

And then there's the bug thing...

Thank you for painting such a clear picture! I can just see the chaos in the car! It would be funny if it weren't so annoying...and in this case, dangerous.

At 12, barring any major diagnosable problems, she can get it together a little better in this area, and you are right to expect that she does.

Here are a few suggestions:
1. During a non-bug in the room time, discuss this issue with her. Provide her with alternative responses such as, seeing how perfectly still she can sit, slowly leaving the area if it is safe to do so, asking you to pull over at the first safe opportunity, etc.

It is appropriate to discuss that she is growing into a young woman and it is not appropriate to risk her life, yours, and anyone else on the road simply because there is a bug in the car.

You can also consider offering a reward when she keeps her cool around bugs.

You may decide professional help, or additional bug education is appropriate.

Good luck to you both!
