My daughter is a single mom and is partying to much

I am worried about my daughter. She recently became a single mom with a 16 yr old son. She is partying too much and my grandson is skipping class and getting stoned. I don't know what to do?

Hi Candy,

I am so very sorry to hear this. It is not uncommon for people to get a little crazy when a relationship ends. However, parenting responsibilities still must be met.

You don't mention speaking with your daughter, so I would suggest you start there. Is there a way that she make her son a priority, and still have some downtime for fun?

If she's agreeable to making improvements, then you may be able to help guide this family's recovery.

If she is not agreeable, you will have to consider your next steps. Can the father intervene? If your grandson is skipping school, the school may have resources or be able to make referrals. Your local police department may have suggestions and resources as well. (I called when my son was having this difficulty and found them to be very helpful.)

Hang in there. Your family is very luck to have you!
