waitress, first child, 20, and scared

by Tori
(Anderson, sc, usa)

My name's Tori. I'm 20 living with my boyfriend and I'm waiting tables full time at a neat by restaurant. My boyfriend has a job as a restaurant manager, but I help with bills and such with my job. I found out that I'm now 3 months pregnant. Was planning on going back to school in the fall, but now it seems that school may be put on hold. I just need help, I can't wait tables while the baby is first born, so that's no income. I know I won't be able to find a babysitter to help me out because I'll be broke. I'm just stressed and this may just come with first baby jitters, but I need advice from people who've been through it.

Scared in SC
by: Ask Sara

Hey Tori!

I sent you a personal email and I'd love to chat with you. First let me tell you that everything is going to be OK! I know you are scared, and that is perfectly understandable. I want you to take a big deep breath and know that you have what it takes to have this baby and to be a great mom!

I was in college and working in a fast food restaurant when I had my son 25 years ago. I was scared too. He's now a grown, wonderful man with a child of his own.

Take it one day at a time, allow yourself to get excited and to enjoy the process. Lean on friends, family, clergy, whomever is available to you. Be certain to connect to a doctor you feel comfortable with, and simply prepare for your baby's birth. Once the baby comes and you get a rhythm down, you'll be able to look to the future and make plans for the future of your little family.

God bless, and congratulations!!
Sara :)
